Visa Infromation
If you live or work in the Beijing Consular District and intend to engage
in tourist activities, attend an educational institution, attend meetings
or conferences, or work temporarily in the United States, you may apply
for a visa at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. The Beijing Consular District
includes the municipalities of Beijing and Tianjin, and the provinces
of Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia,
Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan or Jiangxi. If your visa application
is approved, your passport with the visa will generally be given back
within 20 minutes of your interview. If printing your visa will require
more than 30 minutes, you will be given a claim ticket identifying the
date and time your visa will be ready.
Making an Appointment
All private passport holders who are applying for a U.S. visa for the
first time or who are applying for reconsideration of a previous application
are required to contact the Visa Information Call Center to obtain visa
information and make an interview appointment. People calling from within
China may dial toll free number 4008-872-333 or Shanghai local phone (021)
3881-4611, while those calling from overseas should dial (86-21) 3881-4611.
The Visa Information Center service is staffed Monday through Friday from
7:00am to 7:00pm and Saturday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, closed on Chinese holidays.
Applicants will be given information about the visa application process

DS-156 Visa Application Form — All applicants applying for a visa
with a Chinese passport must complete two DS-156 application forms, one
in English and one in Chinese. Each form is two pages, and must be printed
on the front and back of each sheet of paper. Only A-4 or 8.5 x 11 inch
paper will be accepted.
DS-157 Supplemental Visa Application Form — All applicants 16 years
of age and older must complete two DS-157 application forms, one in English
and one in Chinese. Each form is one page, and must be printed on separate
sheets of paper. Only A-4 or 8.5 x 11 inch paper will be accepted.
DS-158 Contact Information and Work History for Nonimmigrant Visa Applicant
— All applicants applying for F (Student), J (Exchange Visitor)
and M (Non-academic Student) visas, and their dependents (F-2, J-2 and
M-2 visas), must complete two DS-158 application forms, on in English
and one in Chinese. Each form is two pages, and must be printed on the
front and back of each sheet of paper. Only A-4 or 8.5 x 11 inch paper
will be accepted.
Visa Application Fee
All applicants for nonimmigrant visas must pay a non-refundable
application fee of RMB 830 payable at designated branches of CITIC Bank.
Both copies of the CITIC Bank fee receipt must be included with all visa
applications. Please note that the application fee is non-refundable regardless
of whether or not a visa is issued. Applicants who have paid the application
fee but fail to submit applications within the expiration date of the
receipt for the application fee will not have their application fee refunded.
Student Visa
Applicants for U.S. student visas should be aware that they must
apply for their visas no earlier than 90 days before the date when they
must report to the school in the United States. Student visa applications
received more than 90 days before the report date to the new school will
not be processed by the Embassy. All applicants for "F-1" and
"M-1" visas must present a valid I-20 form from the school which
has accepted them. To obtain a visa to study in the United States, applicants
must demonstrate that the sole (not just "primary") purpose
of their travel is to pursue a program of study; they have the ability
and intention to be a full-time student in the United States; they possess
adequate funds to cover all tuition, living and anticipated incidental
expenses without taking unauthorized employment; they have sufficiently
strong social, economic, and other reasons to compel their departure from
the United States upon completion of the projected program of studies.
Busniess visa
"B-1" VISA: The B-1 visa is intended for temporary
business travel. This includes travel for negotiating contracts, attending
exhibitions and conferences, short-term training, and consultations with
suppliers and customers. The B-1 visa is not valid for employment in the
United States. Applicants for B-1 visas should bring to their interviews
documents concerning their anticipated business activities in the United
States including detailed letters from U.S. business partners indicating
the purpose of the trip; copies of contracts or other agreements with
U.S. business partners; and information on machines, software or other
equipment to be examined, tested or purchased in the United States, such
as brochures or product catalogues. Applicants also should bring documentation
proving strong ties to China that include, but are not limited to, bank
statements, letters confirming employment, evidence of property ownership,
marriage certificates, family photographs and proof of prior travel to
the United States.
Visitor Visa
"B-2" VISA: The B-2 visa is intended for tourist activities,
such as sight-seeing, visiting friends and relatives, obtaining medical
treatment, and attending conferences and meetings. Visitors are not permitted
to accept employment during their stay in the U.S. Applicants for B-2
visas may wish to bring to their interviews letters of invitation from
friends or relatives in the United States, information confirming participation
in a tour group or conference, and documentation demonstrating the applicants
ability and intention, or that of friends or relatives in the United States,
to support his or her travel and other expenses. Documentation establishing
the applicants personal status, such as marriage certificates, letters
confirming employment, bank statements, pay slips, etc. is also useful.
