Visa information
one is a multiple entry tourist visas for 6 and 12 months - the other is
a single entry tourist visa. They also have a Business Visa, long term work
visas, student visas, and transit visas.
This information was prior to the recent change - but some of the information
is still useful -
My Visa to China was good for 60 days after application and for one maximum
30 day stay. I sent it to them via US Postal Service overnight delivery
along with a copy of my airline ticket - which was required by the Chicago
Consulate. I prepaid the US Postal Service for a 2nd return envelope for
the return of my passport also with overnight delivery and included that
2nd envelope in the first envelope. I also paid the extra $10 for minimum
special processing. I always do that. My feeling is if you let it go the
normal processing - there is no real sense of urgency and it could get
done whenever with no time certain. By paying the minimum for special
processing there is a time certain. Knowing that is worth $10 to me. My
passport w/visa came back on within a week. NO PROBLMS. I also had a 2nd
passport to process. I sent them both in the one envelope - but I sent
to them 2 separate return envelopes. That way the passports did not have
to stay together while processing. If I had only given them one return
envelope and one passport got to one desk and the other passport to a
different desk or they other wise got separated - how would the two passports
get back together into the one envelope? Thus I sent two return envelopes.
Now if the passports get separated there is a return envelope with each.
I also enclosed two separate postal money orders. Some of the same logic
as the envelopes. Again you can not pay by personal check - cash if applying
in person - money orders are OK and at some consulates company checks.
Do not send cash in the mail.
Fees
for a One-Entry Visa it costs $30 and that takes 5-7 working
days. If you want it faster there is same day processing for $30 more,
2 day processing is $20 more, and 3 day processing is $10 more. If you
are mailing the application there is an extra charge $5 for mailing service.
No personal checks - only cash - money order or company check payable
to “The Consulate General of the P.R. China”. Your passport
can not expire within the next 6 months of applying for the visa. You
need to supply the means and postage paid for them to return your passport.
2 passport size pictures are required. Not all visa instructions are real
clear on that. There is a place on the application to glue a picture -
but you need to send in one other similar picture too. Some consulates
require a copy of your airplane ticket. Don’t know what they’d
do if you have not bought a ticket yet.
