Tourist Visa

Please note that this Consulate General does NOT accept applications for visas submitted by mail. The Consulate accepts only visa submissions brought in by the applicant in person or by a family member/third party properly identified and authorized by a document signed by the applicant(s). The same rule applies for picking up the passport (this office does NOT mail back passports). Applicants who cannot comply with those procedures may use the services of a visa service/visa agency.

Requirements

1. A valid passport showing at least six months validity from the date of intended arrival in Brazil.

2. One Visa Application Form, per applicant, completely filled out, provided by this Consulate, typed or printed, dated and signed by the holder of the passport. Parents should fill out and sign applications for their own children who are minors.

3. One passport-type photograph, in color or black and white, front view. Sorry, but snapshots and computer photos will NOT be accepted.

4. A copy (please do NOT send the original) of round trip ticket/itinerary or a statement from a travel agency, addressed to the Brazilian Consulate, or an e-ticket confirmation containing the name of passenger, the confirmed itinerary, flight number and arrival/departure dates.

5. For minors under 18 years of age traveling alone, please send a notarized letter signed by both parents authorizing this Consulate to issue a visa. If the minor is traveling with only one parent, the other parent must also present (or send) to this Consulate a notarized authorization for the issuance of a visa for the traveling minor. A copy of the minor's birth certificate is also required.

Business Visa

Please note that effective November 5th, 2001, this Consulate General is no longer accepting applications for visas submitted by mail. The Consulate accepts only visa submissions brought in by the applicant in person or by a family member/third party properly identified and authorized by a document signed by the applicant(s). Applicants who cannot comply with those procedures may use the services of a visa service/visa agency. Please find below the list of requirements on how to obtain a business visa.

Requirements

1. A passport valid for a minimum of six months from the date of intended arrival in Brazil.

2. One Visa Application Form, provided by this Consulate, filled out, dated and signed by the holder of the passport. Please type or print.


3. One passport-type photograph, in color or black and white, front view. Sorry, but snapshots and computer photos will NOT be accepted.


4. Letter (on letterhead) from the applicant's employer, addressed to the Brazilian Consulate General, stating the employee's name and title, how long he/she has worked for the company. Please, state very clearly in the letter, the nature of the activities to be performed in Brazil, as well as the duration of stay. Applicants will be required to present additional information if deemed necessary (see item 10 , below).


5. If the applicant is self-employed, an additional letter will be required from his/her bank, containing financial references.

Work Visa

Eligibility:
This type of visa can be issued to persons who travel to Brazil to work and/or perform any services under contract, including scientists, researchers, technicians or professionals, such as those individuals:

a) providing services of any kind to the Brazilian Government, particularly those arising from international agreements to which Brazil is a party;

b) contracted by a company/corporation or other entity based in Brazil to work in the country;

c) providing services or technical assistance, including volunteer work, to charitable or religious entities, without a work contract or employment relationship with a corporation or entity based in Brazil;

d) providing technical assistance services arising from a contract, cooperation agreement or similar instrument signed with a foreign corporation or other legal entity;

e) undertaking professional training, without a formal employment relationship, immediately after the completion of university or professional/vocational studies;

f) enrolled in medical residency programs at educational institution/hospital duly accredited by the Ministry of Education;

g) employed by a foreign company and sent to work in Brazil, as trainees or interns, at a subsidiary or branch of the foreign company, provided that they are paid exclusively outside Brazil by the foreign company;

Visa Fees:
1) The fee for a Temporary-V visa is $ 100.00.

2) US citizens must pay a $100.00 processing fee, which is charged in reciprocity for an identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply for a visa to travel to the USA. Payments must be in U.S. Postal money order made payable to the Consulate General of Brazil. Sorry, but personal checks and cash will not be accepted.

3) Regardless of the nationality, there is a $10.00 fee if the application is not presented in person by the holder of the passport. All consular fees must be paid in U. S. Postal money order made payable to the Consulate General of Brazil. Sorry, but personal checks and cash will not be accepted.

Student Visa
1. A passport, which must be valid for at least six months from the intended date of entry in Brazil. Please, bring it to the Consulate together with documents listed below.

2. Two Visa Application Form, provided by this Consulate, filled out in type or print, dated and signed by the applicant.

3. Two passport-type photographs, in color or black and white, front view. Sorry, but snapshots and computer photos will NOT be accepted.

4. Copy of the enrollment document at a Brazilian educational institution or of a letter conferring the applicant a grant to study in Brazil. Please indicate the length of the intended stay in Brazil and present a document stating the amount of the grant when applicable, or the amount which will be transferred to Brazil during the stay of the applicant in the country. (See item 5, below, if applicant is under 18).

5. A notarized letter proving that applicant's parents have the sufficient means to support him/her during the school-year in Brazil.

6. Applicants under 18 years of age are also required to present a notarized letter from both parents authorizing this Consulate to issue them the appropriate visa.

7. Applicants over 18 years of age must present a non-criminal record statement to be obtained at the Police Department of their city of residence.

8. Proof of residence in the jurisdiction of this Consulate for at least one year.

9. A $ 40.00 visa fee. There is an additional $ 10.00 fee if the application is not presented in person by the holder of the passport. Payments must be in U.S. Postal money order made out to the Consulate General of Brazil. Sorry, but personal checks and cash will not be accepted.

10. In addition to the amounts indicated above, a processing fee of $ 100.00 will be charged to all US passport holders in reciprocity for an identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply for a visa to the USA. Payment must be in U.S. Postal money order made out to the Consulate General of Brazil. Sorry, but personal checks and cash will not be accepted.
