Shiloh National Cemetery :-
In July 1862, Congress passed legislation giving the President
of the United States the authority to purchase land for the establishment
of cemeteries "for the soldiers who shall die in the service of their
country." This legislation effectively began the National Cemetery
system. Shiloh National Cemetery was established in 1866 and has more than
3,500 Union graves. In 1933 responsibility of the cemetery was transferred
from the War Department to the National Park Service
Operating Hours & Seasons The park is open daily 8am to
5pm all year. The park is closed December 25. Peak season runs from April
through Labor Day.
Getting There
Plane
The park is 110 miles from the Memphis airport and 150 miles from the
Nashville airport.
Car
Access by state roads with personal vehicles. Traveling along I-40, exit
at Lexington TN, take Highway 22 South. Ttraveling from Memphis TN, take
Highway 57 East, Highway 22 North.
ACCESSIBILITY
The Visitor Center is accessible to people using wheelchairs,
with one wheelchair available upon request. Parking spaces for those with
disabilites are located at the Visitor Center Parking Lot.
