General Information
Nonimmigrant visas are for international travelers, i.e., citizens of other countries, coming to the United States temporarily. International travelers come to the U.S. for a wide variety of reasons, including tourism, business, medical treatment, and certain types of temporary work.

The type of visa needed is defined by immigration law and relates to the purpose of your travel. The Consular Officer at your embassy or consulate will decide what kind of visa you need when you apply. For more information on visa types, please see Visa Types for Temporary Visitors.

At this time, the Consular Section in Baghdad is authorized to accept applications for A, G and certain J visas only. Please see Nonimmigrant Visa Submission Requirements for more information.

About Immigrant Visas
Immigrating to the United States permanently is an important and complex decision. In general, in order to be eligible to apply for an immigrant visa, a foreign citizen must be sponsored by a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident relative(s), or by a prospective employer.
