Visa Information
For years, our consular sections across Germany have been trying to cope
with answering thousands of calls each week. Whether it was an emergency
call, a simple visa question or a request for an application form, two out
of three callers never got through to consular staff. We simply do not have
enough people to answer all the calls.
Everyone applying for a visa, including applicants renewing visas, is required
to schedule an appointment for a visa interview and appear in person except
for the following: • Children under 14 years of age;
• Persons over 79 years of age;
• Diplomats on official business.
Family Based Immigration
The following relatives of a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
are eligible to qualify for immigration in the family based preference
category.
Family based preference visas are numerically limited and typically involve
a significant waiting period before a visa number is available for immigration.
Note: Married sons or daughters of Lawful Permanent Residents are not
eligible for immigration benefits.
Definition: Your priority date is the date your petition was filed.
• Unmarried Son or Daughter of a U.S. citizen
• Spouse or minor child of a Lawful Permanent Resident
• Unmarried Son or Daughter of a Lawful Permanent Resident
• Married Son or Daughter of a U.S. Citizen
• Brother or Sister of a U.S. Citizen
(U.S. citizen must be 21 or over)
